Biography

Elizabeth 'Betsey' was born in 1779, a daughter of Richard Keating and Miriam Bridges.

Marriage

Betsey married Samuel Bartlett 24 Jun 1799 in Thomaston, Maine.
Their family life follows:
Samuel and Elizabeth had thirteen children, eleven of whom were sons. Their later years were spent in Tiffin, Ohio where they died (Bartlett Forefathers, p. 15).
Samuel and Elizabeth Bartlett came to Ohio during the War of 1812. They lived in Seneca County, Ohio where they died (Seneca County History, p. 699).
Samuel and family came to Ohio in 1814, settling in Hamilton County near Cincinnati. In 1824 the family moved to Seneca County, Ohio (Sandusky County History, p. 396).
The following is said to be extracted from the diary of their son Richard Keating Bartlett: "In the Spring of 1808, the family took to the water and sailed to Belfast, Maine. Samuel built a home about sixteen miles from Belfast where the family stayed for three years, then moving to the north side of Hogback Mountain." (Seneca County History & Families, p. 164). Compiler's comment: This account refers to Knox County, Maine; however, this county did not exist until 1860.
"In March 1814 the family left the Hogback Mountain home and moved down to the house of Uncle William Bartlett and prepared for the trip to Ohio" (ibid). Compiler's comment: In this and the previous paragraph, there is no mention of the locality from which the family moved in 1808, or the locality of the uncle. It is probable that the location for both is Thomaston, Maine or near there.
The family went west to the head waters of the Allegheny River, took to the water on rafts and arrived in Cincinnati, Ohio on 22 November 1814 (ibid). Compiler's comment: The Allegheny River flows into the Ohio River upon which Cincinnati is located.
Later the family moved again, living in several different places and finally settled on Morrison Creek, two miles from Tiffin in Seneca County (ibid).

Death

Elizabeth passed away 4 Sep 1848 (aged 68–69), six days before her husband, and was buried in the Raymond Cemetery, Green Spring, OH. [1] Samuel passed away 10 Sep 1848 and was buried in the Raymond Cemetery, Green Spring, Ohio. [2]
