Biography

My parents crossed the Hungarian/Austrian border during the Hungarian in 1956. My father had just come out of the Hungarian Military when the revolution began. He knew all about the sentry guards at the border, where the mines were and what they were doing and when they could escape. My mother was pregnant with me when they crossed the border with a bunch of other people. There was a little snow on the ground and one of the sentry guards saw the footprints in the snow and sent out an alert with spot light, sirens and dogs. They started shooting their machine guns, people were shot and blown up on the mines. My parents made it to Austria where they were accepting Hungarian refugees. When my mom went into labor they took her to Linz where I was born. My mom didn't speak any German. We stayed in Austria for awhile, my father applied for visas to America but didn't get accepted, but Canada accepted us. We moved to Canada and in Ontario my brother, John, was born on March 2, 1959. I started kindergarten and I didn't speak a word of English, I only spoke Hungarian. My mom said that I came home everyday crying that I can't understand anyone and they can't understand me. Eventually I learned English and as I learned English my parents did too. In 1965 I was 8 years old and hit by a car while my brother and some friends were walking to the pool. I was hurt real bad. My father said he got a phone call at work that I was hit by car and he rana few blocks from work to me. I was hit so hard I flew up in the air and I had road rash on the back of my head and various places, my spleen ruptured along of with most of one of my kidneys, they decided to keep it in. I had a broken left femur, I was in a cast from my chest down to my knee I think. I had lost so much blood that they didn't have any blood in the hospital, so one of the nurses lay in the bed next to me to give me blood directly from her body to mine. I am A- and not very people have that blood type. The doctor told my parents that they don't know if I will survive, if I survive past midnight then I will be ok. Because of the accident I don't have any memory of Canada, before or after the accident, my first memory is in the USA. We moved to the United States when I was 10 years old. We lived in Hollywood till I got married. We went clothes shopping along Hollywood Boulevard where all the shops were and the big Department Stores were. I went to see movies at the Pantages Theater in the balcony, we lived on the street behind the Grauman's Chinese Theatre, that's at what was called then I went to Hollywood High School where a lot of stars went. I graduated at the Hollywood Bowl and went across the stage to get my diploma. My father gave me a choice after I graduated, to get a job or go to college. If I went to college I would get my regular allowance. I chose college, I went to LACC, Los Angeles City College. Then I went to LAVC, Los Angeles Valley College, I met Matthew Tullio and went out and got married Feb 16, 1980 in Van Nuys, California in a Catholic Church, then LATTC, Los Angeles Trade Technical College, where I went into the LVN, Licensed Vocational Nurse. I graduated and became an LVN. I worked at Kaiser in Los Angeles in 1979. In 1982 I got pregnant with Marc Allen Tullio, he was born 9-16-1982 in Hollywood, California, then I got pregnant with Brian Lee Tullio in 12-29-1983.
