Catherine O'Keefe Brady came to the United States from County Cork, Ireland with her mother, Bridget Callahan O'Keefe, and her sister, Ellen, in 1850. Catherine was 2 years old. They joined her father, Patrick, in Stephenson County, IL. They then moved to Grant County, Wisconsin; then to Peosta, IA; and finally settled in Black Hawk County near Waterloo, IA. The father was engaged in farming.
Catherine met her husband, James Brady, at a church picnic. He served in the Union Army during the Civil War and had mustered out 8/17/1865. The couple were married 11/25/1866 in Buchanan County, IA. They were engaged in farming. Seven children were born to them in IA; then the family moved to Smith Center, KS where six more children were born. Eventually the family moved to Waukomis, OK and then to Enid, OK where they lived the remainder of their lives
