Biography

Clark was born in 1842. He was the son of George Keeling and Elizabeth Ayers. He passed away about 1873.

Clark Monroe Keeling was born 16 June 1842 in Habersham County, GA, according to records copied from a Keeling bible. He was the only child of George Washington Keeling and Elizabeth Ayers, who died a short time later. GWK was the brother of my gg grandfather, Littleton Madison Keeling, while Elizabeth Ayers was the sister of Judith Pamela Ayers, Littleton's wife, making Clark a double cousin.

In 1860 Clark was in Polk County, GA with his young wife Susan SCOTT. No marriage listing has been found. Three of the children of this couple had Susan Scott listed as their mother on their death certificates. I have been unable to locate the parents of Susan Scott, although it is likely that she was a member of the extended family of Scotts from Franklin County, GA. Three members of that family married aunts or uncles of Clark. Clark served in Company D 20th Ga. Vol. Inf. during the Civil War.

Clark and Susan had at least four children: Robert Jeptha Clark Keeling, Vesty T. "Lula" Keeling, George C. Keeling, and Joanna M. Keeling. Clark died between 1870 and 1880, his wife being listed as a widow in the latter census. She is not listed in the 1900 census, and was presumably dead by that time. Both Clark and Susan were members of the Van Wert [Polk County, GA] Baptist Church, and both are likely to be buried there in unmarked graves. [1]

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with Clark by comparing test results with other carriers of his Y-chromosome or his mother's mitochondrial DNA. However, there are no known yDNA or mtDNA test-takers in his direct paternal or maternal line. It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with Clark:
