Please don't be put off my some "mentor" editing your work, it can be helpful, you will be notified and there is a change back facility in the "changes" menu if you don't like what has happened. The best part about wikitree is the tremendous satisfaction in interaction with others connected with your family.
I'm sorry the person had your grandmother's profile locked but of course it worked out. Perhaps it had sensitive information on it (which is one reason a person might lock it) or the manager had not gotten to the task of unlocking it yet. It happens. It's not the kind of issue you will face often though.
Sounds like you are all set, but let me know if you have any more questions or would otherwise like some help.
If you had to request to be added to a trusted list before making edits or connections, it was likely that it was a person who is still living. Profiles of still living people can have Privacy Settings that require permission.
"Any profile of a deceased person without any sensitive information in it should be Open", meaning people who have passed away are set at the "Open" setting where any WikiGenealogist can edit. I'm guessing the relative profiles you spoke of were people who were still alive therefore were locked as "Private". The same rules and freedoms apply to all of us.
Does this help?
By definition Wiki means: "a website that allows collaborative editing of its content and structure by its users." The power in this process is the collaboration of more minds than one and many talents pooled. Not everyone is used to this at first, but after a while it becomes apparent that it is the best way. The more involvement people have on WikiTree the more likely they are to make profiles and information more open to others. It's about sharing the work and results. As for someone possibly adding wrong information, yes it is possible...so could you or someone you put on a trusted list. We attempt to put correct information and support it with sources. Mistakes can be fixed as all changes are tracked and people like me are here to assist whenever needed. I hope this helps!
Thank you for your message...nice to meet you. Welcome to WikiTree!
You commented that you got notices that I had edited some profiles you manage. If you wish to stop receiving notices you can change your notification settings.
You also indicated that you were puzzled as to how a non-manager could do edits; every WikiGenealogist can and may edit profiles.
You wondered as to what the changes were; probably the addition of a tag "Needs Sources" if they were not sourced, otherwise if would vary.
I'm sorry you are feeling annoyed, that would not be the intention. Profiles without sources are identified and brought to the attention of those who will attempt to add sources supporting the information.
Keep the questions coming... I'll help in any way possible!
