Walter Willard Keeney was born on 27 November 1893 in Goshen, Lane, Oregon, United States to William Daniels Keeney (1857-1930) and Rebecca Cecilia Williams.

Military Service

He enlisted on 23 October 1918 in the United States Army for World War I service. He served at Fort Stevens in a unit that protected the mouth of the Columbia River. He was discharged on 7 April 1919. He never shipped overseas due to a case of pneumonia.

He married Merthi Ann Bowen (1896-1982) on 7 December 1918 in Clatsop County, Oregon.

  2. Vaderon 'E' Keeney, called Bud, was born on 20 February 1921 in Dexter, Lane, Oregon, USA. He married Ida Elizabeth Landon (1921-2012) on 30 May 1941. Bud died on 24 January 2012 in Hillsboro, Washington, Oregon, USA.
  3. Mary Keeney was born c. 1926 in Lane County, Oregon, USA. She married Mr. Bowman.

Family Responsibility

Walter's father was an alcoholic and had deserted his wife and young children and turned to a lonely life of sheepherding. Somehow, Walter learned that his father was very ill just before 1930. He went by ambulance to pick his father up and take him back to his farm where his father remained until his death. His father's profile features a photo of him in a suit that Walter had purchased just so that he could sit for the photo just before his death.

Death and Burial

Walter died on 12 October 1978 in Springfield, Lane, Oregon, United States at the age of 84. He was buried in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Pleasant Hill, Lane, Oregon. Find A Grave: Memorial #34108547
