Arrived on the ship "Luconia" in Jun 1854 to Victoria.

He joined the Grand Lodge of Scotland in 1853.

In his early years he was a sailor and attained the rank of Captain.

After his arrival in Melbourne with 15,000 pounds he sank his fortune in the Black Horse lead mines in Victoria, leaving this mine within 6' of that great reef which turned out so rich afterwards.

He came to Eden residing for a time at Boyd Town, then to Delegate where he lived for 45 years. is buried in the Presbyterian Section, Delegate Cemetery.
