Biography

Marie Anne was born about 1760. She was the daughter of Jean Pierre Keller and Catherine Waguerly. She married Jean Baptiste Portier on 28 January 1778.[1]

She passed away in 1800.

No. 14 dated March 6, 1794
INVENTORY OF COMMUNITY PROPERTY OF THE LATE JEAN-BAPTISTE PORTIER AND HIS WIFE, MARIANE KELLER. Jean-Baptiste Portier drowned Feb. 25, 1794, leaving 7 children, namely: Jean-Baptiste fils, Nicolas, George, Pierre Barbet, Angelique and Mariane. Andry went to his farm to inventory and appraise the community property. Inventory taken by Jean Duhart, Antoine Folse and Jacques Leche in the presence of the widow; Nicolas and Pierre Keller, her brothers; and Andre Portier, her brother-in-law. First item inventoried was a farm 4 arpents wide by the customary dpth, bounded above by Andre Matherne and below by Jean Densoyer. The farm animals were not inventoried. That will be done as soon as they are rounded up from the woods and pastures. Debts are owed to the community by: Nicolas Keller, Madame Bossie (Magdelaine Rome), Pierre Loup, Simon Portier, Pierre Keller. Debts are owed by the community to: Vincent Marsan, Yves Berthelote, Fleming, Jerome (a New Orleans merchant), Widow Leche (Marie Cecille Faite), and Loubiesse (of New Orleans).
Inventory of the Animals Belonging to the Community of Jean-Baptiste Portier and his Wife, Mariane Keller, May 15, 1794. After the animals are inventoried the appraised value of the estate stands at 3880 piastres which will be divided between the widow and her children. Nicolas Keller, Mariane's brother, is named tutor of the minor children. Andre Portier is named surrogate tutor.1798, d. Dec. 23, 1798 (SJBED, F1, 45)

INVENTORY OF THE EFFECTS OF WIDOW JEAN PORTIER, MARIANE KELLER. Andry, having received word that Mariane Keller, Widow Jean Portier, died July 16, 1800, ordered an inventory and appraisal of her belongings in order that there might be a settlement among her children, namely: Jean-Baptiste portier (22), Nicolas Portier (18), Jean-Pierre Portier (12), George Portier (6?), Babet (20), Angelique (14) and Mariane (7). Inventory taken by Thomas Becnel and Jean Denoyer in the presence of the the above-named children and Nicolas Keller, their uncle. First item inventoried was a farm 4 arpents wide by the customary depth, bounded above by the farm of Andre Matherne and below by that of Jean Denoyer. Appraised value of the estate was 6772 piastres. Instrument signed by Nicolas Keller, Jean Denoyer and Louis de Grandmont (who signed for Keller).

Public Sale of the Farm of the late Widow Jean Portier, Aug. 13, 1800. Sold to Louis and Jean Folse (brothers) for 2225 piastres. They name their brother, Antoine Folse, as their bondsman. Done in the presence of the Portier heirs, Nicolas Keller, Alphonse Perret and Pierre Brou. Debts owed by the succession to: Father Mariano, Jean D. Bridy, Louis Exnicios and George Portier.
Receipt, Jan. 8, 1803. Jean-Baptiste Portier acknowledges receipt, in the presence of Louis de GRandmont and Louis Folse, of the sum due him from the succession of his mother.
Receipt, Jan. 3, 1803. Louis Folse acknowledges receipt from Andry, in the presence of Pierre Rouselle and Louis de Grandmont, of the sum due Jean-Pierre Folse, from Andry, in the presence of Louis de Grandmont and Jean-Pierre Portier (who resides with Folse) from the succession of Portier's mother.
Receipt, Jan. 6 (?), 1804. Nicolas Portier acknowledges receipt, under the bond of Jean-Pierre Folse, from Andry, in the presence of Louis de Grandmont and Jean-Pierre Folse, of the sum due him from the succession of his mother.
Receipt, June 14, 1805. George Portier acknowledges receipt from Andry, in the presence of Andre Deslonde and Joseph Hotard, of the sum due him from the succession of his mother.
Receipt, July 3, 1805. Mathias Rouselle acknowledges receipt from Andry, in the presence of Pierre Rouselle and Alphonse Perret, of the sum due Mariane Portier from the succession of her mother. Pierre Rouselle stands bond for the amount that Mathias received.
Receipt, Aug. 18, 1805 (?). Babet Portier acknowledges receipt from Andry, under the bond of her uncle, Nicolas Keller, and in the presence of Alexandre Delhomme and Louis de Grandmont, of the sum due her from the succession of her mother.
Receipt, Jan. 28, 1809. Joseph Labelle (Laubel?) acknowledges receipt from Achilles Trouard in the presence of F. Langlois and L. Trouard, of the sum due his wife, Angelique Portier fromt he succession of her mother.
