Thomas Kellett was born on 1 June 1863 in Dunedin[1]. He was the first son of the marriage of Thomas Kellett and Sarah Annie Philpot
About 10 November 1875 Thomas was arrested for stealing from a shop and discharged[2]. In 1876 both him and Edward were involved in a case of fraud committed by Arthur Moule[3].
He was a Shoemaker living in Ravensbourne when he married Elizabeth Kirkwood on 6 November 1885 [4]. The location was the home of Samuel Robson with it being recorded in Dunedin Presbytery Marriages records. [5]
Thomas was a Butcher when Thomas Samuel Robson Kellett was born in 1886 then became a Labourer in 1889 for Samuel Robson Kellett's birth. 1890 has him living in Hill street, Rothesay, Ravensbourne[6]. In 1892/1893 he was recorded in Leith street, Dunedin[7]. The electoral roll for the 1893 election has him as a salesman in Rothesay[8] .
Around this time he started having an affair with Marion McKendrick [9].
In 1895 he is listed as a Fireman or Foreman when Robert Valentine Kellett was born. 1896 finds him in possibly two places as he is on the electoral roll in Rothesay and in Wellington[10] and a new profession of Engine driver. In 1898/1899 He is confirmed as living in Arthur street, Wellington[11]. In 1901 he was divorced decree absolute effective 16 January 1901[12] and he was living at 104 Hawdon street, Sydenham as a Machinist[13].
He was in Sydenham in October 1901 as Harry Kellett is listed in his birth certificate as being born there[14] then confirmed in 1902[15]
The Family of Thomas, Marion and Harry moved to Timaru before 1910 with Thomas next recorded living in Raymond street, Timaru as a engineer in 1911[16]. He is recorded as a Engine Driver for the deaths of his sons Thomas , Edward, Robert and Samuel .
He then officially gets married to Marion McKendy on 12 November 1923[12] In Christchurch before going back to Timaru. In 1925 he was living at 7 Wellington Street, Timaru as a engineer[17] He was still living there in 1935[18].
He died in Ashburton Public Hospital on 19 March 1946 [19] after living in 98 Peters Street, Ashburton. He was listed as a Retired Engineer. The parents are listed wrongly as Thomas and Amelia Kellett.
He was buried in Timaru Cemetery on 21 March 1946 in the same grave as his wife Marion [20][21] with a memorial notice placed in the Timaru Herald[22].
