Biography

Daniel was born in Corning NY on 4 Sep 1854.[1]. The date was calculated from info on his gravestone (died 2 Dec 1901, age 47 years, 2 months, 27 days) and may be off by a few days).

He lived in Corning with his family in 1855[2], 1860[3], in 1865[4], in 1870 [5], and in 1875[6].

In 1880: he was living with his family at 2 First Street in Corning and was employed as a Quarry Man. [7]

He moved away from Corning after 1880. His mother's 1897 obituary and his father's 1900 obituary both say he was living in Louisville, KY. Daniel's obituary in 1901 lists his residence as Pittsburgh, PA.

Property

From 27 Oct 1897 newspaper article in the Elmira Daily Gazette In about 1866 (at the age of 12).[8] Daniel acquired a lot on West Market Street that had a $700 mortgage on it. He leased it to his father for life, with the understanding that his father would pay off the mortgage. Daniel left Corning after 1880, and his father did not pay off the mortgage. In 1897, a judge ruled that the mortgage be canceled, and Daniel had clear title to it, once his father passed away.
