Biography

Thomas Okille / Kelly / Kelley / O'Killey was born 13 May 1725 at Yarmouth, Barnstable County, Massachusetts, the son of John Okelia and Elizabeth Crowell.

He married Ann / Hannah before 1760, when their first child, Jeremiah, was born.

Thomas is in the Dutchess New York Tax Lists from February 1753 to June 1775. It appears that he leased land in what is now Southeast, Putnam, New York just north of his brother Jonathan Kelly in Lot No. 8. He was listed in the Philip Philipse Patent tax list for Fredericksburg Precinct in 1777.

He is in the 1790 New York Federal Census for Frederickstown, Dutchess County. He had a household of 2 males under age 16, 1 male age 16 or over, and 4 females. He is listed on the same page column as Thomas Kelly, and between Daniel Gay and Josiah Baker, Jr.

He died without a will; the administration of his estate is dated 11 August 1791. Thomas was of Frederickstown, Dutchess, New York, and his wife is listed as Ann (Hannah); she was appointed Administratrix of Thomas' estate. Benjamin and Philip Pelton, merchants, signed and furnished the $400.00 bond. Philip and Benjamin Pelton owned land (159 acres -- two parcels) in Lot 8 (Philipse Patent, Putnam, New York), and it was later owned (all or part of) by Theodore Kelly. A Smith Thompson and Gilbert Livingston witnessed.

Thomas was a farmer. He was a member of the Gilead Presbyterian Church in 1756 and was one of the inhabitants of the Western Society of Philippi who united to call Mr. Ebenezer Knibloe as their pastor, in 1756.
