Biography

Adam Marrow Kelly was born on May 19, 1834 in Canada to parents George Kelley and Elizabeth Harrell.

He married Augusta Treanor.

The Kelly Family (recorded as Kelley) lived in Burford, Brant County, Ontario at the time of the 1871 Canada Census. The household included Adam (age 38, carpenter), Augusta (recorded as Agusta) (age 28), Freeman (age 10, student), James H. (age 7, student), Franklin (age 5, student), Beatrice (age 4), and John A. (age 4 months).[1]

"Adam and Augusta came to the United States and bought a farm in Elmer Township, Sanilac County, Michigan. He made the last payment on the mortgage of $80 in gold that he carried on a money belt. Adam was a genial man who liked nice things. They lived well but like all people in those early days, were frugal and austere." Quote by Charlotte "Lottie" Kelly O'Donnell, Adam's grand daughter. [2]

The 1900 United States census, recorded on June 20 of that year, noted Adam Kelly was 66 years old and head of household. He lived in Moore Township, Sanilac County, Michigan with Augusta (age 58), his wife of 40 years, and his son John A. Kelly (age 29) and his wife of three years, Sarah E. (age 28). John and Sarah had one child but the name was not recorded in the census. Adam is shown as being born in Michigan but also lists an immigration year of 1883. He was a farmer, living on his own farm, and could read and write.

Adam Kelly continued to live on his farm in Moore Township, Sanilac County, Michigan during the 1910 United States census. He was 75 years old and the head of household. Also living on the farm was his wife Augusta M. (age 68, married 49 years), his son John (age 39), John's wife Sarah (age 37), and their children Nettie B. (age 9)6268|, Grace L. (age 7), Lois W. (age 5), Ethel G. (age 3), and Alger J. (one year old). Their family named is recorded as Kelley.

Adam died on November 12, 1914 in Sanilac County, Michigan. He is buried in Moore Township Cemetery in Snover, Sanilac County, Michigan, United States in Section F. [3]
