John Kelly was the father of my paternal grandmother, Kate (Kelly) McDonald; Kate had two sisters - Martha (Kelly) Sullivan, mother of Mildred ( Sullivan) Connolly and Annie (Kelly) Rogers, mother of Basil Rogers; and brother, Patrick Kelly, father of Annie and Rose Doyle and Mary Farrell; and brother Michael Kelly; 1891 Canada census for John Kelly records his father's birthplace as Ireland; however, no name for John's father; John Kelly's father's name can be deduced as Michael Kelly; 'Life with the Irish: Salmon River District, published 1991, p. 31, states "the first person buried in the cemetery at the church lot was Michael Kelly, grandfather of Patrick Kelly"; Paddy Kelly was the son of John Kelly, making Michael Kelly the father of John Kelly (not to be confused with a later Michael Kelly who was a brother of Kate Kelly McDonald, my paternal grandmother); the 1891 census records no name for John Kelly's mother but that she was born in Nova Scotia; Michael was born in Ireland but must have married John Kelly's mother in Salmon River, Guys. Co., N.S.;
the 1891 census records the John Kelly household members as: John Kelly, age 44; Bridget (Kenny) Kelly, 40; Michael, 16; Annie, 14; Francis, 13; Martha 11; Mary, 9; Magge A, 6; Patrick, 5; Catherin, 2 (correct spelling likely, Catherine; Kate (Kelly) in adulthood married Edward (Ned) McDonald, my paternal grandfather.
