Biography

Hannah Kelley was born on December 13, 1795 in Dennis, Barnstable, Massachusetts to Reuben and Rebecca (Chase) Kelley.

She married John Van Wickler of Inwood, New York about 1825.

They had son John Foster Van Wickler, who was born March 12, 1828 in Inwood, New York and passed away in 1908. They may also have had a daughter (more research needed).

In the US Census of 1850, Hannah was living in Hempstead (Rockaway), with her husband John Van Wickler, a Farmer, and Hannah J. Pearsall, age 11 (granddaughter?).

In the US Census of 1860, Hannah was living in Hempstead (Rockaway) with her husband John Van Wickler (emumerated as Van Wyk), a Coaster, and grand children Susan, Jane, James, and Franklin.

1870 United States Census, Hempstead, Queens, New York: Foster Van Wickler is head of household, a house carpenter age 42, with wife Sarah Van Wickler age 32, and children Kate A. age 13, Abby A. age 11, Sarah R. age 8, John W. age 5, and Mary E. age 3. Also in the home is Hannah Van Wickler age 73.

She lived in the Inwood, New York area from sometime before 1828 to her death in 1888. She is buried in Lawrence Cemetery in Lawrence, New York.

Hannah passed away on December 29, 1888 at the age of 93 years and 16 days. Her death certificate states the place of birth of New Bedford, Mass, however her birth record shows Dennis, Barnstable, Massachusetts. This can be explained by the fact that her father Reuben moved from Dennis (Cape Cod) to Dartmouth (South Shore). See 1800 and 1810 Federal Census.
