Biography

Bridget (Kelley) Cosgrove was born in Ireland.

Bridget Kelley (or Kelly) was born in February 1852 in Ireland, and immigrated to the US in 1868 at the age of 16. In 1870 she was working as a domestic in Clarence, Cedar Co, IA. She married John Cosgrove (or Cosgriff), in Clinton Co, Iowa, in 1873. They had three children: John Patrick, Mary Gertrude (later Whalen), and Elinor Inez (later Kane). In 1880 through 1905 the family was in the city of Clarence in Dayton Twp, Cedar Co, Iowa. She appears to have passed away in 1911 in Hibbing, MN, near where her daughters Mary Whalen and Elinor Kane had settled.

"Mrs. John Cosgrove was born in Ballendereen, Co. Galway, Ireland, April 2nd, 1853..."

Ballinderreen (Báile an Doirín) is a village in the south of Co. Galway (pop 483 in 2016). Wikipedia says that it is in the townland of Ballinderreen, in the civil parish of Drumacoo (Droim Mucú), and in the Catholic diocesan parish of Ballinderreen. At the National Library of Ireland, Ballinderreen maps to the parish of Kilcolgan (a.k.a. Ballinderreen, Drimacoo, Killeenavara, Drumacoo, and "Kilcolgan, Drimacoo and Killeenavara." Birth records begin 12 Nov 1854 and though Bridget Kelley's birth date has been claimed to be as late as 1854, she is not on this list.

Ballinderreen does appear in the "Habitantibus in" column, so at least we are in the right book (likewise Colman's Well, Culleen Hue, Newtown Kilcolgan, Tarae, Aran, Ballyclera, Meebrook, Killeenavara, Tyrone, Pullock, Cartron, Turloughnapronk(?).
