Biography

Robert William Kelly was born in the District of Harbour Island, Bahamas in 1817, son of Robert Kelly, shipwright, and Jane Higgs Kelly. He was christened at St. John's Anglican Church, Harbour Island, 1 June 1818.

He married Mary Fletcher Roberts, daughter of James Roberts and Bethia Coverly Roberts, on Christmas Day, 1844 in Harbour Island, Bahamas. The couple had 10 children, not all of whom reached adulthood - Charlotte Emily, Robert Henry, Susan Matilda, Mary Susan, Elvira Frances, Thomas Stuart, Louisa Albertina, Ellen Josephine, Charles Albert, and Gilbert Strombom Kelly.

Robert William Kelly, merchant, died 7 March 1873 at Harbour Island at 56 years of age. He was buried there at the St. John's Anglican Church Cemetery.
