Biography

During the War of 1812, Peter Bowman Kelly served as a private in the 5th Lincoln Militia with his father and brother. He served from May 25 to May 31, 1813 in Captain Israel Dawdy’s Company. [1]

He served from August 30 to September 2, 1813 in Lieutenant Michael Shower’s Company. [2]

From June 19 to 28, 1814, he was employed falling timber at Burlington while serving in Captain Peter Bowman’s Company. [3]

On September 13, 1815, he certified the war loss claim of Capt. Peter Bowman. [4]

On April 2, 1836, Peter Bowman Kelly, a yeoman of Chinguacousy Twp. and a former private in a flank company of the 5th Lincoln, received 100 acres on the south half of Lot 14, Con. 3, Brooke Twp. [5]

The flank companies only served in 1812 and no surviving payroll documents were found in those payrolls and musters that recorded Peter Bowman Kelly’s name.

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with Peter by comparing test results with other carriers of his Y-chromosome or his mother's mitochondrial DNA. However, there are no known yDNA or mtDNA test-takers in his direct paternal or maternal line. It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with Peter:

I have added information to this profile as part of the wikitree War of 1812 Project and linked it to the project pages. I am not related to this family.

Please email me, if you would like more information on this family, to look at my source documents, or have questions about the war and other veterans and their families.

I will be updating John Sr. and John Jr. profiles sometime in the next week.
