DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with John by comparing test results with other carriers of his Y-chromosome or his mother's mitochondrial DNA.
However, there are no known yDNA or mtDNA test-takers in his direct paternal or maternal line.
It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with John:
My records show that John R Kelley was born abt 1722 to 1730. He married Anne Margaret (Nannie Rush) Kelley. Given that Anne was born in 1718, I would lean towards the earlier birth date for John. But that is at best circumstantial evidence. Benjamin H. Kelley and James Kelley were the sons of John R. Kelley and Anne Margaret (Nannie Rush) Kelley. There is a family search record that shows John Kelley born in 1711 and ties him to Benjamin H. Helley and James Kelley.
What source is there for his parents' identity? I've not been able to find or access anything. The Nancy Means whose records can be found on a genealogy website (see my notes on her profile) married a William Sloan and a John Wasson. I have a DNA connection to this John Patrick and his daughter Mary Ann Kelly Taylor, but not to Lawrence Luke or Nancy Means. Just wondering if this can all be sorted out. Thanks for any help you can give!
I have created John Kelley to attempt to resolve the apparently erroneous merge of Kelley-2911 and/or Kelley-7014 into my original Kelley-233.
I am confident of my wife's relationship to Rev. Benjamin R. Kelley. I am also fairly convinced that Benjamin's father was John and that John was married to Anne Margaret (Nannie) Rush. I have the text of a letter written by Jerrell Carter Kelley where he names his ancestor (grandfather???) Benjamin R. Kelley and names Benjamin’s father and mother as John Kelley and Anne Rush Kelley. However, I have seen claims of John's father being, Benjamin, Edmund, John and James. I have seen discussion of John’s name being John Kelley III. The link to Edmund who is the son of John II and has Edmund naming his son John III seems suspicious. If it is that family, it would seem more likely that John II would be the father of John III. At the moment I am not confident in linking back another generation.
Please note that if John Patrick Kelly/Kelley was born in 1736, he would have been only 5 years old at the date given for his marriage to Anne Margaret. I believe there has been some mixing up of Ann Margarets/ Margaret Anne Rushes and the Kellys/Kelleys.
Also, the Ann Margaret in this connection is shown as born in 1722, making her 14 years older than John Patrick which would be very unusual. There evidently was an Ann Margaret Rush who married a John Kelley, but something isn't matching up here! I have a Mary Anne Kelly who married Jonathan Taylor. Her parents are named in some trees as John Patrick Kelly-1736-1816 and Margaret Ann Rush-1735-1784. Perhaps this comment should be entered in research notes, but I don't want to interfere with your work.
Kelley-2911 and Kelley-233 appear to represent the same person because: Spousal names are the same (these will need merging as well), birth and death dates are well within margin of error and reasonability for merge.
