Hazel was the third child and eldest daughter of Jack and Ada Kelly. They lived at Sunny Brae near Riverton and had 7 children.
In 1908 the family moved down to Adelaide - to Woodville, then to Gilberton in 1913.
Around 1928 her father Jack lost all their money and Hazel with her mother Ada moved in to her daughter Rose Blackburn's house at 20 Park Tce, Gilberton.
Hazel had a powerful voice and used to try to get the church organist to speed up by leading the congregation in a faster rendition of hymns, as she though he played too slowly.
Hazel never married, took up dressmaking and eventually saved enough to buy a house in 1934 at 12 Park Tce, Gilberton where Ada and Hazel lived until the end of their lives.
According to her mother, Hazel never married because she was too fussy! She was very pretty when she was young.
Hazel died from breast cancer in 1960 at the age of 67.
