Biography

About Margaret Byrne Margaret (Mary) Kelly

Mary Kelly was an Irish servant working in Kent when she was convicted of the theft of spoons, plates, pillowslips and napery. She was sentenced to seven years and arrived on the Coromandel and Experiment in 1804. She was assigned to a house in Windsor. She met and married Richard Byrne and they settled on the allotment in the Rocks. After her marriage to Richard she became known as Margaret. She smoked a pipe according to family lore.
