Biography

John was born 24 June 1724 in Rehoboth, Massachusetts.[1] [2]He was the son of John Edwin Kelton and Sarah Babcock.

He married first Mary Case, and second Mary Ingalls Wheeler.[3]

He passed away 23 November 1811.[4]

Research Notes

There has been a lot of confusion about John's first wife being Mary Case or Mary Cole. The two women are first cousins. Both have been associated with John on various trees.

In conclusion, John's first wife is Mary Case (listed here), daughter of William Case and Mary (Cole) Case, not Mary Cole, daughter of John Cole & Mercy Perry.

Vital Records & New England Families sources list the marriage of John Kelton with Mary Cole. After collaboration and further evidence, I believe this was an error, or there is another John Kelton that married Mary Cole.

Evidence to support Mary Case as his wife are both of her parents' wills and the Kelton Family Items released in 1895. William's will references his daughter as Mary Kilton. Mary (Cole) Case has her grandchildren listed in her will, which are the children of John Kelton & Mary: John, Edward, and Otis Kilton & Anna Martin.[5]

    DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with John by comparing test results with other carriers of his Y-chromosome or his mother's mitochondrial DNA. However, there are no known yDNA or mtDNA test-takers in his direct paternal or maternal line. It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with John:
