A question was made whether the parents of Kemmler are known. I don't know them. The Buffalo Courier 7 Aug 1890 p.6. notes that he was a Philadelphia butcher's son and gives his alias as John Hort. The Wilkes-Barre Union Leader 8 Aug 1890 p.1. gives a brother's name as Charles Kemmler reporting that he might possibly claim the body; also says that he grew up in a shambles, with low mental/moral qualities, as a butcher's son in Philadelphia where he worked in a slaughter house before working in a brick yard. A blog claims he was one of 11 children. That is all I know of his family at this time.
