Isaac was born in 1839[1] Wingham, Kent, England[2][3][4] and baptised on the 11th August 1839 at Wingham, Kent, England, the son of Isaac Kemp[5] and Amelia Kemp[6].
On the 19th July 1860, Isaac and his wife-to-be Sarah Cullen were witnesses at the marriage of Isaac's sister Frances Kemp to William Thomas Dunn at St. Clement, Sandwich, Kent, England. [7].
Isaac appears to have adopted the middle name of "Thomas" by the time he married. His birth and baptism records do not record a middle name. He appears to have tried to elevate his status.
On the 30th December 1860, Isaac "Thomas" Kemp married Sarah Rutley Cullen [sic] at St. Mary the Virgin, Dover, Kent, England. Isaac Thomas [sic] Kemp, 22, bachelor, baker of Limekiln Street, son of Isaac Kemp (Farmer [sic]); and Sarah Rutley Cullen [sic], 24, spinster of Limekiln Street, daughter of William Johnson Cullen (Custom House Officer). Witnessed by William Johnson Cullen [sic] and Susannah Johnson Cullen [sic][8]
