Biography

John Thomas Kemp was born in 1732 in London, England and was Christened Mar 28, 1732 in St. James, Westminster, Middelsex, England. He immigrated to the American Colonies by 1761 as he married Mary Elizabeth "Polly" Craghead (or Craighead). Polly was born about 1743 and was the daughter of Robert Craghead (or Craighead) and likely Susanna [Hale] Hail.

Children from this marriage were:

  1. Thomas Cauper Kemp was born on 10 Jan 1763 in Virginia and died on 1 Sep 1831 in Virginia at age 68; married Esther Maxey
  2. Robert Kemp; married Milly Edmondson, Oct 1786, likely married 6 Dec 1802 Sally Mattox
  3. William Riley Kemp was born about 1767 in Virginia; married Susannah Hail, 24 Dec 1790
  4. John Kemp was born about 1773 in Virginia, died in Missouri, married 13 Aug 1799 Fanny Dudley
