Josephine Derecourt Kemp was born in Nassau, Bahamas in 1859 to Dr. George Thomas Robert Kemp and Charlotte Evans Whitehouse Kemp.
She married - his second wife - the Reverend Robert Whittleton, Wesleyan minister, 11 December 1879, in Nassau. The couple had children George Frarey, Mary Alice, Robert Harvey, Charlotte Lillian, Kathleen Isabel, and Harriet Josephine Whittleton.
After 20 years of missionary service in the Bahamas, Reverend Whittleton returned to England with his family in 1894.
Josephine Derecourt Kemp Whittleton died in Lewisham, Kent, England 29 April 1929 at 70 years of age.
