Biography

Clarence Burton Kemp, son of Gaston Raoul Kemp and Florence Elizabeth Murray, was born on 8 June 1892 in Killian, Livingston Parish, Louisiana, United States.[1] He was enumerated with his parents and siblings during the 1910 census, living in Livingston Parish.[2]

Clarence registered for the draft in 1917, during The Great War, while living in Killian. He was single and working as a farmer. He was described as being of medium height and build, with black eyes and hair.[1]

He enlisted with the U.S. Navy on 23 March 1918 at New Orleans, and spent several months at the naval training camp in Gulfport, Mississippi. He was in the Naval Hospital there for about a week. He was discharged from active service on 6 February 1919 with a rating of Ship's Cook 2nd class,[3] and was placed on inactive duty. He received his final discharge on 30 September 1921.[4]

He married Rose Cecilia Murray, daughter of George Patrick Murray and Delilah Ann Hardy, in 1919 in Tangipahoa Parish.[5] They were enumerated during the 1920 census in Livingston Parish.[6]

Clarence died at age 32 on 2 October 1924, probably in Killian.[7][8] He was buried at Carter's Cemetery in Springfield, Livingston Parish.[8][9]
