Biography

MRS. JANE BEMIS PASSED AWAY IN FT. JACKSON

Winthrop - Mrs. Jane Bemis, about 85, died at her home in Fort Jackson, Tuesday morning.

Born in this vicinity, she was a daughter of John and Matilda Richardson Kemp. She married James Bemis, who died several years ago.

She leaves a daughter, Mrs. Myrtle H. Coolidge, of Merchant Street and four sons, Thomas, Frank, George and John Bemis, who lived with her; survived by five grandchildren, Mrs. Rita Holcomb of Brasher Falls; Miss Rebah Hazelton and Roland Hazelton and Mrs. Almira Webb, all of Merchant Street.

Services were held from the Fort Jackson Methodist Church at 2 o'clock yesterday afternoon, the Rev. M. E. Van Ornum officiating. Burial was in the Fort Jackson-Hopkinton Cemetery. [1]

Fort Jackson, April 14 - Mrs. Jane Bemis, age 85, passed away at her home here Tuesday morning. she had been in poor health for several years. She was confined to her bed three weeks ago and gradually grew weaker. She is survived by four sons, Thomas, George, John and Frank, all at home and a daughter, Mrs. Myrtle Coolidge; four grandchildren, Rebah and Roland Hazelton, Mrs. Frank Holcomb and Mrs. Merrill Webb and four great grandchildren. Funeral services were held at 1 o'cloock Thursday at the house and at 2 o'clock at the M.E. Church. Rev. Van Ornum officiated. Interment was in the Fort Jackson-Hopkinton cemetery beside her husband, James Bemis. [2]
