Biography
When Mary Kemp was born on 17 April 1840 in Alfreton, Derbyshire, her father, James, was 29, and her mother, Hannah, was 20. She was the eldest of 14 siblings. She married James Thomas Brocklehurst in March 1859 in Sheffield, Yorkshire. They moved to live in Manchester. They had five children in 16 years. She died on 28 January 1913 in Prestwich, Lancashire, at the age of 72, and was buried there. She suffered badly from bronchitis - possibly due to the pollution in industrial Manchester.
