Documentation for undocumented person, Catherine Digges
NOTE: Mary Digges did not have a daughter named Catherine. Neither did Dudley Digges and his wife Mary Kemp. She might have been accidentally created from errors in a tree uploaded to WikiTree. This note is for members who might have her in their tree!
The editor of the Virginia Genealogist offers "conclusive proof" that Catherine is not the daughter of Edward Digges and Elizabeth (Page) Digges. (The Virginia Genealogist, vol 37, page 229) (The relationship was claimed in a book "The Herndons of the Revolution", by Dudley Herndon.)
Also See Catherine Digges Herndon for additional documentation. Catherine Digges has been removed as a child of Edward Digges.
Douglas Richardson, author the definitive four volume work, "Magna Carta Ancestry", shows that Dudley Digges, Knight, and Mary Kemp, his wife, had three daughters, Anne, Elizabeth, and Mary. (Magna Carta Ancestry: A Study in Colonial and Medieval Families', vol II, page 82) So Catherine is not assigned to that family either.
The Ancestry Family Tree which (presumably) showed Catherine to be a daughter of Mary Kempe is now vacant, and does not exist. In other words, there is no evidence for this realtionship and Catherine should be removed as a daughter of Mary Kempe.
