Biography

Birth and parents : Susanna is variously reported to have been :

Marriage and children : Susanna is variously reported to have married Hans Graff :

  • in 1687
  • in 1700 [1]
  • in Alsace, France
  • One source suggests that she may have been the Widow ORENDORF when she married Hans GRAFF.[2]

Susanna Kendig came with husband Hans GRAFF to America; they arrived by 1704 (13 years before her parents came), lived first in Germantown until 1715 when they moved to Lancaster County. However, Susanna has been reported through family tradition as having been a domestic servant to Hans in Germantown, Pennsylvania.

Death : She died after 1746.[1] Husband Hans GRAFF's will was probated 5 May 1746 in Earl Twp, Lancaster Co, PA. Since she was named executor of his estate, she must have died after 24 Jun 1748 (see Wenger & Grider books); is the 1748 date in Groffsdale really her?

It is likely that John Conrad Graff (Graf-1030) and Hans Graff (Graf-389) are the same person. Same birth year, and in Zurich, Switzerland. Same death date. One has a death place in Earl, Berks, PA (but Earl is in Lancaster Co., not Berks Co., PA), and the other is in Groffdale, Leola, Upper Leacock Twp., PA, which is very close to Earl Twp. Plus Hans is a nickname for John or Johan.
