Documenting this John has been tricky. He has long been and often confused with Captain John Kendrick of Harwich, Massachusetts. There are no documents that indicate the South Carolina John Kendrick ever lived in or moved to Massachusetts, knew anything about sailing/being a ship captain or married anyone in Massachusetts.
I have yet to find any DNA cousins who are descendants of this New England Kendrick family. I do however have many who are descended both from earlier Virginia and North Carolina-based Kendricks (John's father Isham in particular) and this John Darwin family of York, SC.
Probably more salient is that Capt. John was born in 1740. This John was born in 1772, he was only 4 years old when war broke out, and so never participated in the Revolution while Capt John's participation is well documented. Only this John's father and uncles were old enough to participate in the war and they all already have documented descendants at the DAR (and many are recent enough to meet the current documentation standards).
I therefore believe these are in fact two different John Kendricks.
