He is sometimes confused with a Nathaniel Kennard from New Hampshire, who served in the Continental Navy under John Paul Jones.
Lt. Nathaniel Kinnard Jr served in the Continental Army[2] His unit was part of the 4th Maryland Batallion of the Flying Camp, under Colonel William Richardson. One of his men, Philip Reed, became an important general in the defense of Baltimore during the war of 1812.
