Neville Kennard was born in 1937 in New South Wales. He was the son of Wally Kennard and Joan Pockley.
In 1948, Neville's father, Walter, started hiring from 142 Russell Street, Bathurst, New South Wales under the name W. Kennard & Company. Three years later the family moved to Sydney and he traded out of the family garage under W. Kennard Agencies. Neville joined the business in 1957 and purchsased it in 1962. Younger brother, Andy, joined Kennards in 1964. Neville was instrumental in establishing the Hire Association Australia; and was appropriately elected founding president from 1967. In 1991, Neville and Andy split the burgeoning business into two divisons: self storage (Neville) and hire (Andy). Several other divisions have been opened since. By 2017, Kennards had become Australia's largest family-owned hire company with hundreds of branches and employing more than 1,500 people. It is a third-generation business with Neville's son, Sam Kennard, taking over the reins from Neville.[1]
Neville passed away, aged 74 years, on 3rd June 2012.
