Biography

Ewan was born in 1799 or 1800. He passed away in 1873.

His name is spelled Ewen on the 1841, 1861 and 1871 censuses, as Ewing on the 1851 census, but as Ewan on his death certificate.

Note: there are two sons named John who were living at the same time - the older appears on the 1841 census and the younger appears on the 1851 and 1861 censuses.

It may be possible to confirm family relationships with Ewan by comparing test results with other carriers of his Y-chromosome or his mother's mitochondrial DNA. However, there are no known yDNA or mtDNA test-takers in his direct paternal or maternal line. It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with Ewan:

Kennedy-13467 and Kennedy-10157 appear to represent the same person because: They are both married to the same Isabel Gillanders. Mary Kennedy is a full sibling of the children shown on the other profile, as indicated on census records.

While I agree with all of the other information on Kennedy-10157, the year of birth is likely to have been 1799 or 1800 and the place was Russel, in Applecross parish. (By the way, Ewan was my wife's great-great-grandfather. I have information about Ewan's children, with sources, that I can add to Wikitree in due course.)

Hi there. I believe that Ewan was born in 1799 or 1800 in Applecross parish, at a small place called Russel on the shores of Loch Kishorn. This particular place is recorded in the 1871 census. I can't trace any suitable entry in the parish registers but in the 1851, 1861 and 1871 censuses his age is recorded as 51, 62 and 71 respectively, and it is recorded as 73 on his death certificate (he died on 11 March 1873). I suspect that the date of 6 June 1801 is based on a recorded (and likely rounded) age of 40 recorded on the 1841 census taken on 6 June that year.

I'm also pretty certain that this Ewan Kennedy is the same as Kennedy-13467. Merging these two would result in Mary (McKenzie) Kennedy being shown as a full sibling of the children listed above, which would tie in with the 1841 and 1851 census records.
