Biography

Robert was born in August 1849 or 1851 in Morgan Township, Knox County, Ohio. He was the son of Robert Kennedy and Elizabeth Spry. In 1850, the family lived in Morgan Township, Knox County, Ohio, where his father worked as a laborer.^[1] By 1859, the family lived in Grayson County, Texas, where his father worked as a farm laborer.^[2]

By 1870, his father had died and the family lived in Lee's Creek Township, Crawford County, Arkansas.^[3] By 1880, he was widowed and living with his mother and two younger brothers in Lee's Creek Township, Crawford County, Arkansas, where he worked on the farm.^[4]

He married Mary Cuzick Courtney, a widow, on January 30, 1883 in Crawford County, Arkansas.^[5] They had five children together.

By 1900, the family lived in Sugar Creek Township, Logan County, Arkansas, where he farmed.^[6] In 1910, the family continued to live in Sugar Creek Township, where he farmed.^[7]

Robert died on November 2, 1912 in Sugar Creek, Logan County, Arkansas, at age 61. He was buried at Lick Creek Cemetery in Boonville, Logan County, Arkansas.^[8]

Research Notes

The 1850 Census for the Kennedy family lists a Robert Kennedy born in 1849. Subsequent census records for Robert Kennedy Jr show his birth year from 1850 to 1853. Robert's headstone shows his birth date as August 1851. It's not clear whether his parents had another child named Robert that died as an infant and named their next child Robert or that this Robert was really born in August 1849.
