Biography

John was born on November 15, 1859 in Nebraska City, Otoe County, Nebraska. He was the son of Robert Kennedy and Elizabeth Spry. Sometime after the birth of his brother George in February 1853, the family moved from Knox County Ohio to Holt County, Missouri, where his father's brothers lived with their families. Sometime after the birth of his sister Rebecca in December 1855, the family moved from Holt County, Missouri to Otoe County, Nebraska, where his father's sister lived with her family.

By 1860, the family lived in Grayson County, Texas, where his father worked as a farm laborer.^[1] By 1870, his father had died and the family lived in Lee's Creek Township, Crawford County, Arkansas.^[2]

He married Mary Hokit on January 14, 1880 in Crawford County, Arkansas.^[3] They had eleven children, nine that lived to adulthood.

In 1880, they lived in Crawford County, Arkansas, where he worked as a farm laborer.^[4] By 1900, the family lived in Chickasaw Nation, Indian Territory, where he farmed.^[5] By 1910, the familiy lived in Wapanucka, Johnston County, Oklahoma, where he was a proprietor of a confectionery shop.^[6] By 1920, the family lived in Quinton, Pittsburg County, Oklahoma, where he farmed.^[7]

He died on August 31, 1926 in Wetumka, Hughes County, Oklahoma, at age 66. He was buried at Wetumka Cemetery in Wetumka, Hughes County, Oklahoma.^[8]
