He was a carriage painter.
He was living with his brother Peter Kennedy, who was also a carriage painter.

He married Mary Jane Kinlon on 8 May 1881, in Saint Patrick Catholic Church, Jersey City, Hudson County, New Jersey.

His mother died on 15 December 1891.
On 23 December 1891, he renounced his right to administer her estate, and asked that his brother Michael be appointed administrator.

He died on 1 June 1892, at Christ Hospital, Jersey City, Hudson County, New Jersey.
He was living at 305 South 9th Street, Jersey City.
He died of chronic nephritis, which he had had for about eight months.
He was a painter.
He was buried on 3 June 1892.
The funeral was held from his late residence, 305 Ninth Street, Jersey City, New Jersey.
A high mass of requiem was offered at St Michael's Roman Catholic Church.
