Jonathan Kenney was born November 5, 1812, at Salem, Massachusetts,[1] to Jonathan and Hannah (Chandler) Kenney. An alternate birthdate of November 25, 1807 is provided in this source, without attribution.[2]

Jonathan married first Eliza B. Smothers, August 2, 1835. He married second Mary E. Emerson of Providence, Rhode Island, May 12, 1845.[2]

Jonathan Kenney was a Second Lieutenant in the Civil War, serving in the Salem Cadets, Massachusetts Infantry. He enlisted May 24, 1858, and mustered out on 11 Oct 1862 at Fort Warren, Boston Harbor, MA.[3]

Jonathan was living in Salem, Massachusetts in 1870,[4] Jonathan Kenney died July 26, 1875, at Salem, Massachusetts at age 62.[5] In 1890, his widow, Mary E. was listed on the 1890 Veterans Schedules.[6]
