Notes

The following was found from a user on a forum on Genealogy.com. It is not sourced and so the accuracy of the information cannot be ascertained. I am posting it as a possible road map for further inquiries.

"John J. Kent & ? Mrs. Isabel Kent (Parents) children: Phoebe Kent b. est 1762 New Jersey Jesse Kent b. est 1763/1767 New Jersey John J. Kent b. 12 June 1768 New Jersey James Kent b. bef 1775 Silas Kent b. 9 Jun 1782 New Jersey Margaret Kent b. 1784/1790 Hampshire County, Virginia ? Jacob Kent ? b. ?

As you may already be aware from other posts, Phoebe Kent married Frederick Burgett. Phoebe is mentioned in the will of her brother Jesse Kent. The children of Okey & Margaret (Kent) Johnson are also referred to in the will of Jesse Kent. Margaret Kent married Okey Johnson, grandson of Abraham (Abram) Johnson who sold the land in Hampshire County, Virginia near Patterson Creek to the Kent and Burgett families.Abraham Johnson was from New Jersey and oversaw land and other sales in Hampshire County, Virginia.

Based on other records in Hampshire County, (tax & Land) James Kent, John J. Kent Sr. & Junior, Silas Kent, and Isabella Kent all appear. John J. Kent is the brother of Silas Kent.Silas named a son John J. Kent and he lived with his brother John J. Kent until his death.Court cases involving the will and some deception identify Silas son, John J. Kent as the nephew of John J. Kent. All of these Kent children were born in New Jersey. James is mentioned later in records in Madison County, Ohio and appeared on the tax lists in Hampshire County, VA in 1797.

Their is an older John Kent listed in tax records (1782-1790 and later) that is older than John J. Kent identified their as land owner and taxed who was born in 1768/1769 in New Jersey. More than one John Kent are identified in 1786 (3 three of them) with one identified as Jr.). Okey Johnson and wife Margaret appear in the records as early as 1782 and Frederick Burgett appears in 1795.

It is believed that Isabell is the widow of John Kent who appears just in 1782. This John Kent is believed to already be deceased before 1782 and Isabell is believed to have come with her son John Kent and other children to Hampshire County, Virginia.

Silas Kent appears from 1802-1805 in Hampshire County, VA tax lists.

A Jacob Kent is also found on tax lists in 1790 but it is not known if he was part of this family."
