George and Susannah (Eagon) Kent farmed in Richhill Township in 1810, Franklin Township in 1820, and finally were located southwest of Waynesburg near Oak Forest in Center Township, Greene County, where by 1850 they had a land value of $1500. When his father died, George was willed "$100.00 for his trouble and disappointment in not getting the land in Wheeling". This apparently referred to the land that Thomas owned by Ryerson's Station, which he did not see for years due to the Indian problems; since it was located on Wheeling Creek. By 1850 poor Susannah was blind, but her granddaughters, Jemima and Susannah Pipes, were living with her. George, Jr., aged 22, was living there, also and I think this is Thomas's son. It is interesting to note that Thomas was unable to read or write, but his children signed their names on their important papers. At a time in history when the nation was recovering from the Revolutionary War and were still being troubled by the Indians, the Kent family were educating themselves and improving their lot in life. George's will is in Will Record Book Volume 4, page 8 in the Greene County Courthouse in Waynesburg, Pennsylvania.[1]

Research Notes
There are conflicting facts associated with the birth name of George's wife Susanah and the date of her death. Several sources indicate that George was married on 10 February 1802 to a Susanah Eagon(3 March 1771- 16 February 1850).[1][2][3] Some of these same sources also indicate that Susanah died on 16 February 1850 before she apparently appears in the United States Census of 1850 still living with her husband.[12] The Find A Grave record for George Kent has him married to a Susanna Blackburn(2 Mar 1781 - 15 Feb 1857) but offers no source references for these dates.[15] "Thomas Kent and his Descendants" lists these dates for Susanah Eagon Kent and suggest that she may be the brother of Solomon Eagon also unsourced.[1] A Missouri History published in 1886 has a reference to Susanah (Blackburn) Kent as the wife of George W. Kent in a profile of their son Uriah Blackburn Kent without listing any dates for Susanah.[6] This so far the oldest known reference. At the moment there are no definitive sources that support either Susanah Eagon or Susanah Blackburn as the wife of George W. Kent. The SARs references suggest several possible older sources that might resolve these conflicting facts if they can be located. Several bibles are listed, the Thomas Kent family bible, the John R. Pipes family bible and the Hunt family bible.
