"GALENA, KANSAS: Harry H. Kent, age 91, 1001 S. Main St. died at 6:15 am, Wednesday, May 06, 2009 at his home following an illness. Mr. Kent was born May 15, 1917 in Galena, KS. His parents were Harry and Maggie (Albertson) Kent. He had lived in Galena all of his life. He graduated from Galena High School in 1935. He served is the U S Army during World War II as a corporal in two campaigns in the European Theatre Operations. He retired as an Assistant Postmaster after working several years at the Galena Post Office. He was a member First Christ Church, Galena, KS where he had served as a Deacon, an Elder, and the Men's Class Sunday school teacher. He was charter member of the VFW, Galena, KS. Among his hobbies was stained glass art. Harry was married to Wilma N. Russell, August 23, 1940 in Baxter Springs, KS. She survives. Also surviving is their Goddaughter, Caressa Crotts, Galena, KS and several nieces and nephews, including one special niece, Jean Briscoe, Tulsa, OK. Graveside services will be at 2:00 pm, Friday, May 8, 2009 at Hill Crest Cemetery, Galena, KS. Pastor Jeff D. Martin and Pastor Paul Sims will officiate. Arrangements are under the direction of Derfelt Funeral Home, Galena, KS. Pallbearers will be Matthew Russell, Daniel Russell, David Russell, Jason Crotts, Dean Jesse, and Gene Russell. Friends may call at the home. Memorial contributions may be made to First Christian Church, Galena, KS. Online condolences may be expressed at derfeltfuneralhomes.com.[1]
