The search for Hannah Kinneon's origins begins with her marriage certificate.[1][2] It informs us that Hannah was from Perquimans County in the Province of North Carolina and that she married James Griffin of Chowan County also in the Province of North Carolina on the 5th of May, 1770 at the Symon's Creek meeting house in Pasquotank County, Province of North Carolina. The witnesses at Hannah's marriage are listed in the table below.
* Bjorkman transcribes this name as James Griffin. [2]
# In the third column the first two names are those of the groom and bride. Traditionally, the parents of the couple are listed directly below the names of the couple.
Note 1: It is expected that, in the third column the name in this position would one of the James Griffin's closest relatives. His father, James Griffin, died in 1761 prior to his son's marriage to Hannah Kinneon. This suggests that Isaac Griffin is either his uncle or his brother. The fact that his mother does not appear here suggests that she also died prior to her son's marriage to Hannah Kinneon.
Note 2: Elizabeth Bogue
Hannah married James Griffin on the 15th of May, 1770 in Sutton Creek in Perquimans County, Province of North Carolina.[1][2]
On the 4th of April, 1770, James Griffin and Hannah Kynnion first declared their intentions of marriage before the Perquimans Monthly Meeting in Perquimans County, Province of North Carolina.[4]
On the 2nd of May, 1770 Hannah and James appeared before the Perquimans Monthly Meeting to inquire concerning their plans of marriage. They are given leave to marry at their convenience.[5]
On the 6th of June, 1770 it was reported to the Perquimans Monthly Meeting that that the marriage of James and Hannah was accomplished "with no complaint of disorder."[6]
In 1787 Hannah moved from verge of the Symon's Creek Monthly Meeting in Pasquotank County, North Carolina to the Centre Monthly Meeting in Guilford County, North Carolina. On the 17th of November, 1787 it is reported that Hannah has moved and committee is formed to prepare he a certificate.[7] At the next monthly meeting, on the 15th of December, 1787 a certificate is prepared, approved and signed. Kenyon-1542 and Kenyon-1614 appear to represent the same person because: although they have different birth dates, they share the same spouse and the same son James.
Kenyon-1886 and Kenyon-1614 appear to represent the same person because: same first name, last name, maiden name, birth date/location/spouse, marriage date/location, death date/location, both had a daughter Elizabeth.
Kenyon-1886 and Kenyon-1614 are not ready to be merged because: I have not been able to find any information about Elizabeth ( Betsy)Griffin. I am just trying to see if Hannah Kenyon is her mother. I dont think I know enough to merge these people.
