Miss Willis, after quitting England, took up the dramatic profession in New Zealand, where for a time she supported all the leading artists who visited that colony. She then starred through the principal cities, playing Leah, Lady Isabel, Lady Macbeth, Pauline, and other prominent heroines of the British drama. Subsequently she visited New South Wales, and played a lengthy and successful starring engagement at the Queen's Theatre, Sydney. After this she went to the Theatre Royal in the same city, appearing in a round of characters during the seasons of the late Sam Emery, the well known English actor, and Miss Augusta Dargon. From Sydney Miss Willis proceeded to Ballarat, where she appeared for an extended period, afterwards starring at the Old Princess Theatre, Melbourne. Since then she has fulfilled a very large number of engagements in the colonies, and established herself a prime favourite with the theatregoing community. OBITUARY. There passed away in Melbourne last Monday, February 28, a very old theatrical identity in Mr. I. F.. Keogh. In the old day he was a well known provincial actor manager, who toured Australia and New Zealand, with that brilliant and emotional actress, Miss Marian Willis, as leading lady.
Of late years deceased has been little heard of in the theatrical world, leading a quiet, uneventful life, with his daughter, Mrs. L. O'Donnell, also a clever actress, who has done good work in Australia under, the nom de theatre of Miss Dora Fotheringham. His first names were quite aristocratic and imposing, viz., Ignatius Fotheringham, but to his friends and associates he was always known as "Old Cuff Keogh." His last appearance was probably at the old Alexandra Theatre about the time that the late Dan Barry played his last season there.
Mr. Frank Keogh, who was associated with Bland Holt for some time, is a son of the deceased gentleman. The latter never lost interest in matters, theatrical, and, when in a reminiscent mood, his conversation was something worth remembering. His greatest delight was the arranging of a miniature theatre in the nursery for his grandchildren, when the utmost care was taken to observe and maintain the mechanism of real stage craft.
