Nicholas was the eldest of six brothers, with the others being Adam, Jacob, Daniel, Caleb, and John. Nicholas sailed from Rotterdam on the ship "Two Brothers", arriving in America in 1747.[1]
During the Revolutionary War, Nicholas Gebhart served as a private in the Fourth Company, Second Batallion of the Lancaster County Militia. He also served with a unit from Northumberland County, He lived for a time after the war in eastern Pennsylvania, but eventually ended up homesteading on a tract of land next to Abraham Goss.
At some point, Nicholas changed his name from Gebhart to Kephart.

There were many marriages between the Kephart and Goss families. Nicholas lived near the old Centre school house. He and his wife are buried at the Goss Cemetery in Stumptown, Clearfield, Pennsylvania. [2]
The inscription on his memorial reads:
