Biography

Caroline was born on 10th October 1816 the daughter of William Reid and Mary Barnard. She was born in Carey Street, in the parish of the Liberty of the Rolls, Middlesex [1]. Her birth was recorded in Dr Williams Library, a nonconformist Register which stated that:

Caroline Reid, the daughter of William Ker Ried and Mary, the daughter of Edward and Mary Barnard was born in Carey Street. In attendance was Mary Barnard. [2]

She was the niece of Michael Faraday and attended the London Sandemanian Church with her parents.

In 1841 she was 24 years old, living in Hortet's Terrace, St Pancras, Middlesex, England, United Kingdom with her brother Edward Reid and her aunt Barnard-4098Jane Barnard]].[3]

In 1842 Michael Faraday visited the Sandemanian Church at Old Buckenham, Norfolk and his niece Caroline Reid left a detailed account of the visit. This included having "tea with John Loveday on the green" (9th July 1842). On Monday 10th July, Mr Fisher came to breakfast with us to say farewell. Seemed to feel our leaving very much. No doubt my uncle Faraday has been a great help and support to the elders and this time after the painful separation of Thomas Loveday and his son Foulger Loveday. [4].

She married Thomas Deacon on the 18th June 1846 in Clerkenwell, Middlesex[5]

Their marriage is listed on London Sandemanian Marriages and other links between church members. There were about 70 marriages between the families of the London Sandemanian's of which this was one.

In the 1861 census Caroline (age 44), gentlewoman, was the married visitor of Sarah Faraday in Hampton Court Road, Hampton, Kingston, Middlesex, England.[6]

She died on 17th May 1890 according to the Sandemanian records[9]

Caroline's death (age 74) was registered in the Apr-May-Jun quarter of 1890 in the Newcastle-upon-tyne district.[10]

Membership of the Sandemanian Church

Caroline was admitted into membership of the London Sandemanian Church on 10th December 1837 according to the membership records. The records state that she was Daughter of Mary Reid, married Thomas Deacon died 17 May 1890 at N C otyne (poss Newcastle upon Tyne) [11]

Also shown, in different handwriting, is one of his children Katherine Barnard (1844-1912) https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Barnard-4055 living at 12 Highbury Terrace, Islington, Middlesex from before 1911 until her death, and one of his grandchildren Kate Barnard Blaikley (1879-1969) https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Blaikley-22 living at 5 Canfield Gardens, Hampstead, Middlesex from before 1939 until before her death. These hand-written notes record the Barnard family, and others, commencing with William Barnard (1605-1682) through to a John Barnard, a farmer in 1898, living at Haslingfield, 1¼ miles from Barrington, Cambridgeshire, where Barnard ancestors had lived since 1605. A copy of these notes is in the possession of Trevor Pickup (Pickup-177) and Michael Pickup (Pickup-178).
