Helena was born in 1905. She visited India in the early 1930s, where she met and married Robert William Targett, a British civil servant in the midst of a promising Raj career, who resided close to the Viceroy in New Delhi. The couple had one son, also named Robert, before divorcing. Helena and her son were evacuated from India for most of WW2, which she spent living with her mother, Cleaphinia Syme, in her home town in Wisconsin. At the end of WW2 Helena travelled to London, where she arranged her son's assimilation into the British school system. She moved back to Wisconsin alone, where she passed away in 1958.
