Biography

Mary M. Kern was born in Rowan County, N. C, between April 1, 1787 and Nov. 1, 1788 in Rowan County NC, the oldest daughter of Adam, Sr. and Katharine Riblin Kern. There is no information on what the "M" stands for but assume she was named for her grandmother Magdalene Kem. However, she went by the name of Polly. Polly was unmarried at the time her mother died and it is •presumed she kept house for her father when he moved to Monroe County, Ind., in about l8l8. Bloomfield, Green County, Ind., was a few miles down the road from her home. Ephraim Owen, whom she married on Jan. 1, 182I+ in Monroe County, was a farmer from Green County and this is where she went to live. Joseph Berry, "MGCC" married Mary M. and Ephraim, he probably being the father of Polly Berry who married Mary's brother, Conrad Kern. Polly and Ephraim Owen migrated the Montrose County, Iowa, in 1839. Ephraim had been born in McDuffie County, Ga., the son of Ephraim and Sarah Owen, in 1797. He died the year they moved to Iowa. The year 184I was the time when, as a Mormon, Polly made the pilgrimage to Nauvoo, IL, just across the Mississippi River, and was baptized vicariously for her father, Coonrod Kern," the best proof discovered that Conrad Kern was the father of Adam Kern, Sr.

Biography states father is Adam Billings Kern (1762-1838) but he is not the linked father.
Kern-3287 and Kern-716 are not ready to be merged because: more information needed
posted by Kern (Thompson) Brogan
Kern-3287 and Kern-716 appear to represent the same person because: same dates, same locations, duplicated spouse with slightly different spelling. different parents, but bio in Kern-716 does not match linked father, so sources need to be reviewed to determine if they are the same or different
