Walter was born in 1876. He is the son of James Kerns and Nancy Courtney.
Walter was the son of James Wilson and Nancy Elizabeth Courtney Kerns. He married Laura Ellen Drummond 18 Sept 1901 in Colorado Springs, CO They had 3 daughters, Birdella Gertrude, Twilabelle, and Velva June.
