Recorded as Grace on the Census but as Christina at the time of her marriage.
She was employed as a Farm Servant.
Christina was 20 when she married John Elliott of Kilmarnock at Dunlop on 5 June 1874. Witnesses to their marriage were Thomas Elliott (brother of John?) and her sister Jane Kerr. [1]
A son George was born on 11 November 1874, just before their departure from Scotland. Two weeks after the birth of their son they sailed to New Zealand on the ship Oamaru leaving from Glasgow 30 November 1874. They arrived at the Port of Otago on 15 February 1875. [2]
Their son George wasn't listed perhaps due to his age, about 2 weeks old.
Her sister Jane had married James Boyd on 24 November just 6 days before they all left Scotland and they also made the voyage to New Zealand.
John, Christina and George made their home in Riverton, Southland. Six children were born in Riverton, James 1877, Christina Jane 1878, Mary Theresa 1883, Esther 1885, Elizabeth 1889 and Ellen Effie Watson 1893.
Christina Elliott passed away at the home of her son in law at Longwood in 1927 aged 73 [3] and is buried at Riverton Cemetery. 17 Anglican Section Row F. [4]
