Biography

James was born about 1804 in Berwickshire. Several people named James Kerr were born in Berwickshire the same year, so positive identification is difficult.

One man named James Kerr married Mary Lawson in 1830 with the usual 2 ceremonies: first at Ladykirk, Berwickshire on 30 May 1830; second at Coldstream, Berwickshire, 4 June 1830. But which James Kerr was it? They went on to have at least 8 known children.

Too many people named James Kerr! No middle names or other means to tell them apart.

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with James by comparing test results with other carriers of his Y-chromosome or his mother's mitochondrial DNA. However, there are no known yDNA or mtDNA test-takers in his direct paternal or maternal line. It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with James:

Kerr-10084 and Kerr-1686 appear to represent the same person because: Both have the same vitae, linked / married to the same spouse

Kerr-10084 and Kerr-1686 are not ready to be merged because: Same name, same date of birth, same wife. But admittedly there was more than one James Kerr in Berwickshire.
